Welcome to The Online Racing Association.
TORA is the premier online racing organisation in the UK and operates a wide range of Championships over multiple racing categories. TORA enjoys partnerships with some of the worlds leading game developers and motorsport media outlets, a feature which makes us unique in the sim-racing world.
TORA's objective is to provide sim racers a professional environment in which to race and an accessible range of motorsport categories for all skill levels.
We strive to develop a friendly and supportive community that is able to pass on the passion for motorsport that runs through the entire organisation.
TORA organises and officiates over a wide range of sim racing categories and disciplines. TORA also aims to provide it's participants high quality media exposure through the range of outlets at it's disposal.
TORA as an entity may only be a year old but the organisation set up by jenson09 has been in existence since November 2007.
Set up as a means to operate a GT based series on a weekend the FM2 British GT Championship started in earnest in early Febuary 2008 with a modest four car grid racing at the Silverstone International Circuit.
By the season's end in April the field had grown to an average of around 20 cars.
The second season of the GT's, starting May 2008 saw the formation of a more organised body to run and maintain the growing community and side series being employed by the members. The British Grand Touring Association (BGTA) would see the continuation of the flagship British GT Championship and the addition of the Touring Car Championship as a major support series. Numbers participating in both series continued to grow as the series gained popularity in the wider community.
By the start of 2009 the BGTA had become The Online Racing Association (TORA) and had undergone the most comprehensive re-engineering and re-organisation in its history. Along with a more complete administrative staff and a move away from an entirely forum-based community, TORA brought in a number of new initiatives to promote a wider range of motorsport varieties. 2009 also saw TORA reach out to the world with its media services. TORA TV was set up to provide a highlights package for the website which showed the best action from TORA's main series and also some of the special events. The most successful aspect has probably been Traction Control, TORA's weekly podcast. While the format and title has changed the desire for a weekly radio magazine, covering all the news from TORA and real sport has been such that the show remains one of the core activities from the Association.
It has also been though TORA's additional activities that it has been able to develop relationships with major motorsport media outlets such as Autosport magazine and Radio Le Mans.com. TORA has also become, prior to Forza Motorsport 3's launch and official partner of Turn 10 and Microsoft Game Studios, the game's developer.
There is little doubt that TORA has developed rapidly in the space of two years and with the wider motorsport relationships currently being developed and the increasing relevance of sim racing as a viable tool in motorsport preparations it is expected the association will be around for quite a while to come.
